András Barat
My approach in therapy is trauma-informed, non-judgmental, gentle, and affirming. In sessions we might explore conversations around love, dreams, spirituality, and any topic that might lead to your self-discovery.
Of course, I know that during this time in the world, many people feel depressed, anxious, traumatized, and exhausted. As a part of your care team, I’ll help you develop coping skills, process and manage difficult emotions, and learn to build healthy social connections with your family, peers, and communities.
I’m ready to listen to your story and to provide you a space of safety. I’m eager to learn how I can support you with the skills required to define and redefine your sense of self, and transform your life!
Background & Licensure
I received my Bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Illinois in Chicago. My education is focused in gender and sexuality, power and knowledge, and environmental justice. I completed my Master’s degree at the University of Southern California, where I trained in mindfulness interventions, DBT, LGBTQ+ wellness, and spiritual identity.
I’ve worked in LGBTQ+ advocacy for over a decade, and have experience providing professional training, changing policies in schools and corporations, and leading teams. I’ve worked with LGBTQ+ survivors of violence, with pet owners as they mourn the losses of their chosen family, and in caretaking with people of all ages. Because of my unique identities and experiences, I understand the importance of exploring culture, religion, and media in our meetings. How do these institutions influence your everyday life, or shape how you see yourself?
